Are you a Baby Boomer, approaching retirement? Or perhaps you’re considering a complete career change?
Whether you plan to drop out of the rat race to enjoy more leisure and freedom, or whether you itch to take on something new, you are in one of the major transition stages of your life.
Baby Boomers are poised to swell the retirement segment of the world’s population pie. Yet one thing is certain, and that is that the 'Baby Boomers' experience of retirement is going to be very different from that of our parents, both in what we make of our retirement years and in how we experience the second half of our lives.
For many, this is the first time that we’ve had the freedom to take charge of change in our lives. Considering that many of us will have a ‘retirement’ that may be longer than our ‘working’ lives, it makes sense to adopt a pattern of actively making choices that will indeed make those years our Bonanza Years.
Instead of retiring from, we have opportunities for broadening out and taking opportunities. Indeed, research has shown that happiness does not need to diminish as we grow older and that, in general, our sense of wellbeing increases steadily from its lowest point, in our late forties.
Even if your retirement is not imminent, you will benefit, as you approach this stage of life, of becoming more aware of what you envision for it, and of planning to make the most of choices which could well be more significant for your wellbeing that your first career choice was.
